WhatsApp is said to work on password-protected, encrypted chat backups for iCloud and Google Drive. According to reports from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on introducing a security feature to protect their chat backups with password and encryption that allows users to protect their WhatsApp chat backups from unauthorised access with a password.
This feature allows users to use passwords to protect their databases and discussion media from unauthorised access. As you can see in the attached screenshot, this feature commands prompt the user to enter a phone number when encrypting a chat backup with a password. The user can then set a password to encrypt future backups.
WABetaInfo also shows that your password will not be shared with WhatsApp and according to the screenshots, Messenger cannot help you get back forgotten password for the same reason. As you can see from the screenshot, the upcoming features will be available for both iOS and Android versions of the app. It’s also worth noting that this feature also works with local Android backups.
WhatsApp does not share official information on this feature at this time. But we expect to hear more in the coming weeks. It should be noted that this is not the first time that we have heard of this feature. WABetaInfo first described about it in May have last year, but we didn’t have as much information on it.
