WhatsApp has launched support for 8 people in group video and voice calls. This group call limit update is available to all WhatsApp users on Android and iOS. Previously, WhatsApp supported up to 4 people in a group call.
This limit was previously set to 4, but WhatsApp has doubled the number of participants that can chat on group video services. In a blog post about this announcement.
“people on average are spending over 15 billion minutes talking each day on WhatsApp calls, well above a typical day before the pandemic. And just like written messages, all those calls are protected with end-to-end encryption. We have built group calling in a way that makes it available for as many users as possible, including people on lower-end devices and slow network conditions.,” said in a post.
To receive the new update, users need to download and install the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store and App Store. Only then can a user make a group call with 8 people. You can start by starting a group chat with 4 or more participants. Click the call icon at the top that appears next to the group chat name. Then select the person you want to add to the group call from the list of participants. The eighth member can choose up to seven people.
You can create a group call without a WhatsApp group. To do this, open the calls section in the bar at the bottom and slide your finger to open your contact list. Here, tap the call icon and select the people you want to add to the group video or voice call. Anyone on your contact list can choose to make a new group call.
