WhatsApp has introduced two new safety features for Indian users. Flash call and message level reports. The latter allows users to flag specific messages and report their account. The flash call feature is an addition to the SMS verification options required during the WhatsApp registration process.
According to WhatsApp, these two features were introduced to keep the user experience secure. Apart from end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp offers a number of safety features such as blocking contacts, controlling with whom to share, hiding messages, locking apps with Touch ID or Face ID, and more. To do. The instant messaging app has rolled out flash call and message-level reporting capabilities as part of its efforts to make the platform more secure.
The new flash call feature gives users the option to see their phone number on an automatic call instead of an SMS message when setting up WhatsApp on a new phone or reinstalling it on the handset. This feature is currently only available to Android users. With this pass, WhatsApp can call the phone and check it automatically, so no other SMS check action is required. WhatsApp claims that this is a much safer option given that this is all done from within the app.
For message-level reporting, WhatsApp users can now report their accounts to WhatsApp by reporting specific messages. This can be done by simply pressing and holding a specific message to flag or block the user. In the latest Transparency Report, WhatsApp has banned more than 2.2 million accounts in September alone.
Most of the banned accounts were due to automated tools introduced by WhatsApp to track dubious accounts. Users can also block their accounts if desired.
WhatsApp also provides a two-step validation for users to add a layer of security. For group chats, WhatsApp has group privacy settings that allow users to control who adds chats.
