MediaTek will announce a new 5G chip on May 18. Could be Dimensity 800 Plus


MediaTek has launched three chipsets under its new 5G Dimensity lineup, Dimensity 800 and Dimensity 1000 back in January, and the most recent Dimensity 1000 . The company is now ready to launch yet another chipset in the same series. The company has today confirmed that it will be hosting a launch event on 18th May in China to unveil a new 5G chipset. While the name of the chipset going launched is not revealed, we assume it to be the MediaTek Dimensity 800 Plus.

According to a previous leak, Dimensity 800 Plus is supposed to provide an overclocked CPU at 2.6GHz rather than of 2.0GHz. Apart from this, everything else is assumed to be almost identical to the original variant. The MediaTek Dimensity 800, which was launched earlier this year, is a 7 nm octa-core processor consisting of four Cortex A76 cores with 2.0 GHz and four Cortex A55 cores with 2.0 GHz consists. For graphics, it is implemented with Mali-G77MC4 and also has HyperEngine game technology for an improved gaming experience. It grants support for Full HD screen resolution with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz.

Memory can hold up to 16 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. This chipset supports voice and data over 5G and is built for global sub-6GHz 5G networks and supports up to 3.5Gbps download speeds and up to 1.25Gbps upload speeds.

The company recently launched the Dimensity 1000 SoC, which offers a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, MiraVision Enhanced HDR10 and AI-PQ for dynamic real-time adjustment of the contrast, colour, sharpness and colour level of 4K videos.

It also comes with 5G UltraSave technology and HyperEnging 2.0 for enhanced gaming performance. The upcoming iQOO Z1 5G, which is due to be launched on May 19, will be the first smartphone to be equipped with this premium chipset.
