Google India has removed the Paytm financial app from its play store because of the gambling policy violation. The Paytm app isn’t in the Android app store, but it’s still available in the Apple app store. Paytm is India’s most valuable start-up company with over 50 million active users each month.
“The Play Store bans online casinos and other unregulated gambling apps that promote sports betting in India,” Google said.
Before the start of the IPL 2020 in India, Google has removed the Paytm app from its play store. In addition to promoting sports betting, Google said it violates the Play Store policy if the app directs consumers to external websites where they can earn real money by participating in paid tournaments.
According to the report, Google notified the developer of a violation of the guidelines, and they contacted the developer. It sounds that the developer wasn’t responding, leading Google to remove the app from the Play Store. Paytm is still available for download from the Apple App Store, so the ban is presently limited to the Play Store.
Google hasn’t issued an official statement but has released an updated blog post about gambling policy violations. Android Security & Privacy, Vice President of Products, Suzanne Frey, detailed the updated policy for gambling apps.
“Online casinos are not allowed and do not support unregulated gambling apps that promote sports betting. This is against our policy if the app directs consumers to an external website where they can take part in paid tournaments and receive actual money or prizes,” she states.
Paytm reached out to customers and stakeholders via tweets, convinced that the app would be coming back online soon.
Paytm Android app is temporarily unavailable on Google’s Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon.
All your money is completely safe, and you can continue to enjoy your Paytm app as normal.
